The beautiful trophy from the FIFA World Cup 2022 has finally arrived in Pakistan as part of the FIFA Trophy Tour 2022. The second time in the span of four years that this trophy was shipped to Pakistan for fans of football to admire.
The former FIFA Cup winner from France, Christian Karembeu, stepped out carrying the trophy weighting 6.1kg and was retrieved from an airline chartered from Lahore in Uzbekistan.
The Pakistani women’s football legend Hajra Khan received the award at Lahore airport and then was delighted to welcome it to Pakistan which is where it will remain for a day.
It is the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour that will be bringing the exclusive solid gold FIFA World Cup Trophy to football fans across the globe. This is a global roadshow for fans to take in the rare and intimate glimpse of the world’s most coveted football prize.
It will also be on display at two events in Lahore. One event is open to stakeholders and partners as well as people of all ages, and will be held later in the evening.
In an interview with Geo News, Karembeu said it was an honor to return to Pakistan to take part in this year’s FIFA World Cup 2022 Trophy tour pakistan.
“Every kid in the world wants to see [the trophy] and, of course, we need to respect that dream and we know that everything is magical when we have it (9 trophy) this close to us.” Karembeu said.
In reminiscing about his experience traveling to Pakistan the former player stated that he was awestruck at the enthusiasm shown by the football crowd in Pakistan and that it was a great experience. He acknowledged Pakistan for their welcoming and warm reception.
“Four years ago, it was one of my best memories. I remember that 15 thousand people came to see the trophy,” said the man, noting that the sight of such a large number of people was not a shock, but rather a delight.
“Here is the will to play football and I hope soon there will be a solution for them [Pakistanis] to play and be part of the competition.”
In a discussion about the tournament, Karembeu declared that France is among his top choices and also mentioned Brazil as well as Germany as potential other teams to be included in the top four.
He also said that there is a possibility that an Asian as well as an African team might also be in the mix.
At the event, Hajra Khan said that it was an honor to be part of the trophy tour again. She was hopeful that Pakistan will soon be able to be able to make a swift return to the international arena of football.
